Deep in the mountains, the river of no return carries everything we came to leave behind.
Along the Main Salmon, the view climbs from moving water toward wooded slopes and open ridges. The scale takes a while to absorb. A boat, seen against all that country, is a modest piece of equipment to have brought along—and a good place from which to watch it pass.
