Canyons

The desert keeps its finest secrets beneath the surface. Here, water has spent a thousand lifetimes carving passages through the bones of the earth, leaving behind cathedrals of sandstone, corridors of shadow, and silence deep enough to swallow the centuries. The sun visits these places only briefly, and some have never known the sound of a human voice.

To descend into a canyon is to wander backward through time, into a world that asks nothing of you but your curiosity. The sky narrows to a ribbon of blue, the walls rise like ancient monuments, and somewhere around the next bend, the earth reveals another small piece of its long and beautiful mystery. There are worse ways to lose yourself.
